Our switching and portfolio rebalancing options give you full control over your clients’ investments.
Options for managing model portfolios
Why would I use it?
Use this option if you have clients who are invested in assets outside a model portfolio (loose assets) and you wish to move all your clients’ holdings into a model portfolio.
What happens if I use this option?
We will apply ‘net trading’ meaning we will only sell and purchase the minimum amount of assets needed to achieve your desired goal.
Assets will be invested and linked to the model portfolio you have selected to purchase.
Any cash held in the account, can be switched into the model.
IMPORTANT
If you are managing multiple investment strategies within an account or actively managing a cash balance, you should not use this method to switch from a superseded version of a model portfolio to a new version. Instead, please use 'model switch out,' detailed below.
Why would I use this option?
Use this option if you run model portfolios and wish to move your clients from an existing model portfolio into the latest or different version of a model portfolio.
What happens if I use this option?
We will apply ‘net trading’ meaning we will only sell and purchase the minimum amount of assets needed to achieve your desired goal.
The client will be moved from the previous model portfolio to the new portfolio you have selected.
Any cash sitting outside the model, will not be switched (it will remain as cash outside the model).
IMPORTANT
This route only switches assets held in the model portfolio, not other assets or model portfolios held by the client in their account.
Why would I use this option?
I want to rebalance a model portfolio into the original asset allocation.
What happens if I use this option?
We will apply ‘net trading’ meaning we will only sell and purchase the minimum amount of assets needed to achieve your desired goal.
All assets held by the client in a model portfolio will rebalanced to the original portfolio allocation.
Triggering a manual rebalance will not stop any existing, automatic rebalancing instructions that are already in place on the model.
Why would I use this option?
Use this option if you want to replace an asset in a model portfolio on a one for one basis.
What happens if I use this option?
Only assets selected will be switched, with 100% of the asset being sold and replaced by the chosen asset. All other assets in the model portfolio will remain untouched and will not be rebalanced.
Why would I use this option?
A redirection allows you to change the chosen assets for a regular investment.
What happens if I use this option?
Future regular investments will be directed into your selected assets. If you instruct a redirection using the model portfolio management options detailed above, it is important to know that the whole of the regular investment will be invested in the new model portfolio. If you have clients who hold a model portfolio alongside loose assets, then instructing a separate redirection will allow you to specify both model portfolios and loose assets for future investments.
Why would I use this option?
Use it if you no longer want a client to be linked to a model portfolio.
What happens if I use this option?
After being unlinked, the client’s assets will appear as loose assets and they can be switched or sold as appropriate. To find out more about switching options at individual client level, please see our 'Switching' page.
Switching
Switch trades are prefunded where required, reducing time out of the market and where appropriate we apply net trading to minimise the number of units that are bought and sold to achieve your desired outcome.
Net trading does not apply under all model portfolio and switching options. If you manage assets by switching at an individual client or asset level then please read our article on switching.
