A little bit about Selaine

I am a financial planner, committed to helping people improve their family’s financial future. I focus on problem solving, consolidating large quantities of information, to find and deliver most suitable solutions. Highly numerate, with a first class degree in Mathematics and Management Studies from Cambridge University, I bring a wealth of life experience: having run my own business, taught mathematics, and served as a Member of Parliament from 2019-2024, including being a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Treasury and member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee throughout.

I know life doesn’t always go to plan, but I work to improve your family’s financial resilience for the long term.

Money needs a plan. Here’s where to start

Money doesn’t make decisions on its own. Left sitting in cash, it quietly loses value. That’s why money needs a plan. It’s not about being wealthy or knowing all the answers – it’s about giving your money direction. And in the UK, many people miss out simply because they don’t take that first step.

  • Most people in the UK save sporadically or leave money sitting in cash – missing out on growth.
  • Planning gives peace of mind. It turns uncertainty into clarity.
  • The earlier you start, the more powerful the impact – but it’s never too late.
  • Quilter’s purpose is to help build brighter financial futures. That starts with a plan.
  • Investing always carries risk. Investing can help your money grow over time, but the value of investments can go down as well as up.

Making your money work for you

Why investing matters

  • Lazy money loses value over time – inflation chips away at it.
  • Investing little and often helps your money grow without needing to be an expert.
  • A plan helps you stay focused and avoid reactive decisions.

Inflation and ‘lazy money’

  • Inflation quietly erodes the value of your savings.
  • £10,000 in cash today could be worth significantly less in 10 years.
  • Investing helps protect your money from inflation and grow it over time.

Selaine has been very helpful. The QFA presentation really put my mind at rest knowing that my financial position is more stable that I thought and also Selaine helped me think about when choosing different financial options. I feel I have a much better understanding of what I need to consider.

Selaine was a great conversationalist and was able to masterfully cover a broad range of topics in a way that was easy for me to understand. Even though I felt my situation may not have been perfectly suitable as a candidate for Quilter, I felt reassured to know there was someone as friendly and open to discussion as Selaine on the team.

I cannot recommend Selaine Saxby highly enough. She has been absolutely brilliant in helping me sort out my pensions and making sense of everything, which had previously felt rather complicated and daunting. Selaine is extremely knowledgeable, professional and, importantly, takes the time to explain things clearly and make sure you understand your options. I have always felt that she genuinely has my best interests at heart, and I have complete confidence in the advice she has given me. Since working with Selaine, my pensions have already grown in value, which is fantastic to see and has given me much greater confidence about my financial future. I am so pleased that I found Selaine. She has taken away a lot of the worry and made the whole process feel straightforward and manageable. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy and approachable financial adviser.

I live in lovely North Devon with my naughty Labrador, Henry – we both love time on the beach and long walks through our spectacular scenery. I enjoy being on the water, and gig row socially which helps give perspective with the view back to land. Understanding finances from all angles is vital to how I help to develop personalised, financial solutions.

I have always enjoyed helping people fulfil their potential through my various careers – having been a fitness instructor and run the country’s largest sports bra retailer, LessBounce.com I helped women fulfil their sports potential. As a maths teacher I still enjoy breaking down complex concepts so understandable, and apply them to real life; and as a local MP, meeting and helping constituents resolve issues was always the most rewarding part of the job.

I know life doesn’t always go to plan: since losing my parliamentary seat in 2024’s General Election I have retrained through the Quilter Academy. I bring a high political awareness of the economy alongside my financial acumen, and am accustomed to working with, and listening to people to find solutions and build financial resilience into their futures.

I work flexibly and am always happy to meet clients however suits them best, whether online or in person and look forward to meeting with you.
