Can the right protection help you become more financially resilient?

Have you heard of the ‘protection gap’? You probably know someone who’s fallen into it.

Most of us know to get travel or pet insurance, or even just insure our mobile phone. But when it comes to really big life events, cover can easily get overlooked – causing a gap.

Far too many people aren’t properly protected against life-changing events, like losing their job or not being able to work because they’ve fallen ill. Which means that when these things do happen, they can have a much bigger impact than they need to.

Luckily, cover like income protection and critical illness can help people become more financially resilient. So, if you do have a financial shock, it doesn’t have to turn everything upside down. And it can be surprisingly simple and affordable.

If you’ve had a big milestone recently, or a change in your circumstances, it might be the right time to relook at your protection needs.

Reach out to me and I’ll be happy to help.

I have always dealt with the end client in my various roles and am acutely aware of what clients need and the value a financial planner can add over the long term. I enjoy getting to know clients and listening to their stories to gain an understanding of their needs and objectives. Often, clients reach out thinking there is a need for advice in a particular area, only to find that the situation is not quite as they thought. For example, a client contacted me for advice on how best to finance home improvements, not realising they had a large potential inheritance tax liability to mitigate and could benefit from pension advice. Another client hadn’t fully appreciated the risks of holding large amounts of cash with a single institution, and I reorganised their finances in a way that protects them and their family and ensures their wealth is passed on to their beneficiaries in the best possible way. As they say, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’.
