A little bit about Selaine

I am a financial planner, committed to helping people improve their family’s financial future. I focus on problem solving, consolidating large quantities of information, to find and deliver optimal solutions. Highly numerate, with a first class degree in Mathematics and Management Studies from Cambridge University, I bring a wealth of life experience: having run my own business, taught mathematics, and served as a Member of Parliament from 2019-2024, including being a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Treasury and member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee throughout.

I know life doesn’t always go to plan, but I work to improve your family’s financial resilience for the long term.

Could you be more financially savvy this tax year?

Graphic of people planning their investments

March, and spring more generally, is often a time for fresh starts. And now your tax allowances are getting one too. The new tax year begins on 6 April, giving you time to plan how you’ll use all those new allowances to your advantage.

Take your ISA allowance. It can be tempting to leave it until the last minute to use it up. But, if you’re able to pay into it at the beginning of the year, you’re potentially getting a whole extra 12 months of time for your savings to grow.

A review right at the start of the tax year, or just before it, can also help us spot if there are any tax incentives you could use throughout the year.

You might be surprised just how many people don’t do this - and miss out on money that’s rightfully theirs. These tax incentives can be things like increasing your pension contributions or charitable giving to help offset your income tax.

I can also draw up a cashflow model to bring this to life. The model allows us to explore and compare different strategies and scenarios, so you can see the difference it will make to your long-term finances and goals.

If you want to find out more about the savvy financial strategies I could help you with this tax year, feel free to get in touch.

I live in lovely North Devon with my naughty Labrador, Henry – we both love time on the beach and long walks through our spectacular scenery. I enjoy being on the water, and gig row socially which helps give perspective with the view back to land. Understanding finances from all angles is vital to how I help to develop personalised, financial solutions.

I have always enjoyed helping people fulfil their potential through my various careers – having been a fitness instructor and run the country’s largest sports bra retailer, LessBounce.com I helped women fulfil their sports potential. As a maths teacher I still enjoy breaking down complex concepts so understandable, and apply them to real life; and as a local MP, meeting and helping constituents resolve issues was always the most rewarding part of the job.

I know life doesn’t always go to plan: since losing my parliamentary seat in 2024’s General Election I have retrained through the Quilter Academy. I bring a high political awareness of the economy alongside my financial acumen, and am accustomed to working with, and listening to people to find solutions and build financial resilience into their futures.

I work flexibly and am always happy to meet clients however suits them best, whether online or in person and look forward to meeting with you.
