A little bit about Reuben

The best advice I can give? Choose a financial planner you genuinely connect with. Based in Portsmouth, I work with professionals, business owners and their families to build tailored, tax-efficient, and targeted financial plans that protect what matters most. My approach is shaped by a people-first mindset and 11 years in the Royal Navy, where focus and forward planning were essential. I hold a Diploma in Financial Advice from the London Institute of Banking & Finance.

Gifts that give back

Graphic of people exchanging gifts

December is often seen as the gifting season. But alongside the usual socks and chocolate gold coins, it might be worth planning a slightly bigger, longer-term present for your loved ones this year.

Inheritance tax (IHT) is notoriously complicated and can hit people with a big bill if it isn’t managed properly. It isn’t reserved for the very wealthy either. Dealing with IHT is a reality that many more families face after a loved one has passed - in what is usually an extremely vulnerable moment.

This is where using your gifting allowances can make a real impact on those around you. It’s a great way to share your wealth with the people you love while limiting their exposure to IHT. It does take a little bit of extra planning though.

Sitting down with an adviser like me can help you figure out where you want your money to go, and when. For instance, it might be more helpful to gift a family member a contribution towards their first home now, rather than leaving them a legacy.

Whatever you decide is best, we’ll find the most tax efficient way to do it.

Reuben is located in Portsmouth and offers expert financial advice to suit your needs.

The best part of my role? Connecting with my clients by taking the time to learn their story, to understand the life they’ve built, the goals ahead of them, and their financial landscape. We talk all areas of life and finance over a coffee, and together we build a plan that helps turn those goals and dreams into a viable reality.

But I also know from personal experience that life doesn’t always go to plan. When a close family member faced a critical illness, it became clear to me just how important having the right financial support in place really is, often more than we realise.

That’s why I take the time to dive deep into your story and the life you’ve created, so that when life does take a turn, you know you’ve got someone in your corner and a plan that can stand up to whatever comes next.

Finance can feel overwhelming. My job is to simplify it. I want you to leave every meeting with me feeling in control of your money and confident about your future.

I follow a four-stage process, with you at the centre, every step of the way. Initially we will meet to simply get to know each other, talk about your situation, goals and what support you’re looking for. We will then move to a financial review and explore all areas of your finances to build a complete picture of where you are now. I will then apply my expertise to the information you provide, creating a tailored, targeted and tax-efficient financial plan designed around your needs, which delivers against your goals. Together we will then review your plan, continuing to work together, so when your life changes, the plan changes, ensuring that your money is always working for you.

I work remotely, however in a digital world, I believe in face to face advice and will always facilitate this, where practicable.

I haven't always been a Financial Planning Consultant. Previously, I served in the Royal Navy for 11 years, spending much of that time based in Portsmouth onboard Type 45 Destroyers. I was deployed globally, experienced diverse cultures, and worked in high-stakes environments, experiences that I believe make me a dynamic and well-rounded adviser.

The highlight of my military career was receiving the King’s Commendation for Valuable Service in 2025, following a deployment onboard HMS Diamond in 2024.

I understand the challenges that service personnel face and am passionate about improving financial well-being within both the serving and veteran communities.

My family is my biggest driver in everything I do. Outside the office, I’m a dad, partner, brother, son, and friend. I enjoy walks with our needy Cockapoo, staying fit so I can feel guilt-free when exploring new food venues with my fiancée, and catching up with my brothers and friends. I’m not your typical financial planner on the golf course, you’re more likely to find me ringside watching boxing or mixed martial arts.

Nicky

I became self-employed and wished to ensure I had a pension that was suitable for my circumstances. Reuben took the time to found out what sort of pension entitlements I wished to have when I reached retirement and my current circumstances and went through the different options in detail with me.

James

My pension had not been looked at for over 4 years and I wasn't happy with the growth with one of the portfolios. Reuben analysed the portfolios in which I was invested and explained why a particular portfolio was not performing well. Reuben assessed my risk appetite, but also took the time to understand my goals for the future. Reuben presented his recommendations in a friendly and professional manner. From the initial consultation to the final meeting with recommendations, his approach always placed the best customer outcomes at the forefront of every decision.

Dave

Reuben prepared a future financial cash flow model and explained our options and helped me to determine the most appropriate level of investment risk taking into account the forecast.

Stuart

I was taking on my first employee and needed a workplace pension scheme. Reuben researched Auto Enrolment schemes available, advised on the most suitable and then assisted in the set-up of the scheme. He always followed up on discussions to ensure that I understood everything and if I needed any assistance anywhere.

Erin

I had recently had a baby and needed to make sure I was covered if anything happened. Reuben has helped me find the best insurance and cover that fits with my circumstances at an affordable price.
