When is the right time to invest?

There’s always a degree of uncertainty when it comes to investing, so it’s natural for some people to feel nervous about it.

When the news is reporting stock market volatility, it’s understandable that some people might feel more cautious about investing. But including investments in your long-term financial plan is a smart way to give your money the best chance to grow.

Keeping money in cash might feel like a safe option, and having some money easily available is a sensible decision. But too much cash could end up costing you more because of inflation’s ability to eat away at the value of your savings. For example, when £10,000 is invested it can grow by 78% over 30 years, but if it was kept in a current account its value could actually reduce by 59%*.

There are lots of options when it comes to investing, and I’m here to guide you through them. I can help you decide things like which risk level is right for you, what types of investments to use to maximise your tax efficiency, and how to create an investment plan tailored to your circumstances and goals. I can also show you how different investment approaches could impact your finances over the long term.

If you’re thinking about how investing today can help create the life you want in the future, let’s talk about how I can support and guide you through the process.

The value of investments and the income they produce can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.

With retirement approaching, my wife and I decided that it would be a good time for a full review of our financial situation to help ensure an enjoyable and worry-free retirement.

Nick took the time to really get to know us, and made us think about what we actually wanted our money to do for us. He put together a detailed life plan, as he called it, which demonstrated how our income, savings, investments etc would meet the cost of our desired lifestyle in retirement.

Using a cash flow forecasting tool modelled on our income, savings, investments and expenditure he was able to demonstrate different 'what if' scenarios to see the effect these would have on our financial position. It transpired that Nick found that we had an inheritance tax liability and using the 'what if' was able to show that we could mitigate this without it impacting our retirement plans. He also noticed that our Wills were linked to some trusts that were set up in 2006 and had become outdated and no longer effective in achieving what they were originally designed for.

Thanks to Nick, all of this has now been resolved. Nick did a thorough job and it was clear from the outset that my wife and I were front and centre at all times and he wasn't just trying to sell us something. I am confident to recommend Nick for any financial advice and have indeed done so already to a close family member.

I needed advice on investments and retirement planning and have been greatly helped with this by Nick over the last five years. From the start, Nick impressed me with his knowledge of investments and pensions and the related legal and tax issues. He is always focused on my overall goals and offers advice that makes sense in that context. He prepares well for our meetings and follows up any required actions promptly.

I have to admit that sometimes I take a while to make decisions or take necessary actions myself, and here Nick helps by prompting me. I'm happy with how my investments have performed and that the long term plan we have agreed makes sense. I really can't find fault with the service Nick has provided.

Nick has been incredibly helpful, patient and professional throughout the entire process from initial contact through to transferring my pensions. He is knowledgeable and approachable and a pleasure to work with. Every interaction I have had with Nick has been positive and productive, at a time of great change and uncertainty in my life. Nick was not only able to recommend great investment solutions with regard to transferring and consolidating my pensions, he also spent a considerable amount of time listening to my needs.

Nick always addressed any concerns promptly, explaining financial terminology in a user friendly way. In addition to this, he also advised me on life insurance options and gave lots of general financial tips and tricks to help me streamline my administration, paperwork and my life in general!
