Having grown up in the Scottish Borders, I went on to study Forensic and Analytical Science at university. While I ultimately decided that a career in forensic science wasn't for me, I enjoyed the analytical and problem-solving side of the subject - qualities that have proved equally valuable in financial planning.
I moved into financial services in 2018 as a Trainee Paraplanner, while studying for my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning in the evenings. I progressed to Paraplanner and then Head of Paraplanning, building a strong technical foundation and developing a detailed understanding of the financial planning process. In October 2022, I moved into financial advice, allowing me to combine that technical experience with working directly with clients.
I continued to build on my technical knowledge by completing my Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning through the Chartered Insurance Institute, becoming a Chartered Financial Planner in 2024.
My approach
Financial matters can often feel complicated, full of jargon and overwhelming. I believe good financial advice should make things simpler, not more complicated.
My approach is to take the time to understand what really matters to you, explain things clearly and help you make informed decisions about your financial future. There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to financial planning, so I build plans around your circumstances, priorities and aspirations, adapting them as your life changes.
I work with individuals, families and business owners who want greater clarity about their financial future. That could mean helping someone approaching retirement understand their options, supporting a business owner as they plan for life beyond their business, or helping a family make the most of their wealth while considering the next generation.
My particular areas of interest are investments, pensions before and during retirement, and inheritance tax planning.
Away from work
Outside of work, you'll normally find me enjoying the outdoors around Edinburgh. I enjoy cycling, hill walking, golfing and running. I’m very lucky to have such a fantastic range of outdoor spaces right on my doorstep!
