Gifts that give back

Graphic of people exchanging gifts

December is often seen as the gifting season. But alongside the usual socks and chocolate gold coins, it might be worth planning a slightly bigger, longer-term present for your loved ones this year.

Inheritance tax (IHT) is notoriously complicated and can hit people with a big bill if it isn’t managed properly. It isn’t reserved for the very wealthy either. Dealing with IHT is a reality that many more families face after a loved one has passed - in what is usually an extremely vulnerable moment.

This is where using your gifting allowances can make a real impact on those around you. It’s a great way to share your wealth with the people you love while limiting their exposure to IHT. It does take a little bit of extra planning though.

Sitting down with an adviser like me can help you figure out where you want your money to go, and when. For instance, it might be more helpful to gift a family member a contribution towards their first home now, rather than leaving them a legacy.

Whatever you decide is best, we’ll find the most tax efficient way to do it.

Financial advice can feel daunting but it doesn’t have to be. I’m a financial adviser Quilter Financial Advisers, focused on helping people gain confidence and clarity around their money - whether they’re planning for retirement, aiming to step onto the property ladder, or looking to make their investments more efficient.

What I enjoy most is solving problems and being there when it matters. I genuinely care about my clients and take pride in going the extra mile - whether that’s crafting a tailored financial plan or sending a thoughtful message they didn’t expect. If someone gives me the opportunity to hear their story, I see it as my responsibility to prove that they made the right choice in trusting me. My belief is that financial advice should feel reassuring, not overwhelming. It’s not just about money - it’s about understanding people, meeting them where they are, and showing empathy without judgment. I want clients to feel supported, comfortable asking questions, and confident that they're being looked after with honesty and expertise.

With CeMAP and CeRER qualifications, along with a degree in business and finance, I combine technical insight with a compassionate, down-to-earth style. And when I’m not advising, you’ll probably find me playing chess, unwinding in nature, or bingeing a good series.

Whether you're based in London, Brighton, or anywhere in between (or beyond), I'm here to help you feel confident about your finances. From retirement planning and tax efficiency to property goals and smart investments - I offer clear, tailored advice that fits your life. We can meet face-to-face or online, whichever works best for you. Get in touch today to start a conversation that puts your financial goals first.
