Our Story

We set up the Quilter Foundation in 2018 as the charitable arm of Quilter plc to make a lasting difference across the UK. One of our first commitments was a four‑year partnership with Carers Trust and The Mix, investing more than £1.7 million to support over 300,000 young people aged 16–25 with unpaid caring responsibilities. Since then, we’ve focused on financial education, wellbeing and social mobility, always aiming to help people build brighter futures.

From day one, our Board of Trustees has helped guide our direction. Their experience and commitment ensure our funding goes where it can have the most meaningful impact.

Our journey

Over the years, we’ve built strong partnerships with schools, charities and community groups. Through strategic programmes and local grants, we’ve supported more than 100,000 young people to develop practical skills, improve their wellbeing and broaden their opportunities.

We continue to grow and evolve. New Trustees bring fresh perspectives, helping us stay connected to the communities we serve and respond confidently to changing needs. Collaboration remains central to how we work, ensuring support reaches those who’ll benefit most.

Looking ahead, we’ll keep investing in innovative programmes and deepening our partnerships. Our aim is simple: to help more people, whatever their background, gain the confidence and tools to thrive. Through this commitment, we remain focused on creating brighter financial futures for every generation.

Impact story: Breathe Arts Health Research

In 2025, we awarded a £10,000 grant to Breathe Arts Health Research to support their Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Programme, which helps children and young people with hemiplegia after brain injury or stroke. Our support went beyond funding. By working closely with the team, we helped strengthen the charity’s resilience and extend the programme’s life‑changing impact throughout the year.

Thanks to grant, 116 people directly benefited from 2,703 hours of therapeutic, developmental, and community‑building activity.

“Meeting my goals and magic practice gave me the confidence to do things even others my age struggle with. I’m the strong one at something.” — Amaira, Young Magician

“The programme has been life‑changing for Zakariyya.” — Parent

Our partnership with Breathe Arts Health Research went well beyond a £10,000 grant. We provided more than 50 hours of pro bono meeting space, saving the charity over £2,500, and offered practical staff development through workshops on pitching, social media and professional skills. Our colleagues also shared expert guidance and helped create valuable networking opportunities, building confidence and capability across the organisation.

This funder‑plus approach strengthened Breathe’s resilience during a challenging period and showed how skills‑based support can create long‑term, sustainable impact.

Impact story: The Genie’s Wish – Wishmas at Hamleys

In 2024, our £10,000 grant helped The Genie’s Wish bring its Wishmas event to life, transforming Hamleys into a private, magical space for more than 350 children, young people and their families. The charity supports people aged 0–40 with critical or terminal conditions, as well as young carers, giving families rare moments of joy, calm and connection.

With the store closed to the public, families could explore a peaceful, spacious Hamleys filled with characters, face painting, toy demos, sing‑alongs and treats – creating a truly child‑centred experience. By working with our wider charity partners, we were able to welcome even more families and strengthen our Charity Network.

Parents described the day as uplifting and restorative. One father shared how the event allowed his daughter, who has a terminal condition, and the whole family to relax and enjoy time together. Families who couldn’t attend received Hamleys teddy bears – a small gesture with a big emotional impact. Others spoke about children who usually struggle socially feeling at ease in what they called a “magical” environment.

For us, these reflections are more than testimonials – they help us understand impact, shape future events and make sure we’re meeting the needs of the families we support.

Impact story: Money Ready’s ‘Understanding Work & Money Days’

Delivered with our partner Money Ready, our Understanding Work and Money Days give young people practical, confidence‑building experiences that demystify the world of work and money. These sessions blend employability skills, financial education and meaningful engagement with Quilter volunteers, helping young people recognise their strengths and feel prepared for future opportunities.

After a 2025 session, every participant reported feeling more confident about seeking employment, a strong sign of how effective tailored, hands‑on support can be. Feedback from Money Ready and our volunteers consistently shows how these days help young people feel at ease, understand their next steps and develop essential workplace skills.

We’ve seen outstanding success: two young people who first joined as participants are now employed at Quilter. Their journeys show how these sessions can spark real, life‑changing outcomes.

We’ve already delivered these days in our Southampton, Belfast and Glasgow offices, with growing interest from other regions. The combination of accessible financial education, practical employability support and genuine volunteer engagement continues to create lasting, measurable impact for the young people who attend.

Quilter Employee
I learned how little some of these more independent charities get by away of support and that business like us supporting them can make a huge difference.
Quilter Employee
It just reminded me how good it is to give time to others and how important financial education is. I really enjoyed the sessions and would recommend that everyone takes the time to volunteer.

It is so beneficial for young people to hear about working life and experiences it gives them invaluable tips and guidance for the future whatever they end up doing.

At the Quilter Foundation, we work in close partnership with the charities we support. Open conversations and shared responsibility help us track progress in a fair, constructive way.

We set clear goals with our partners and agree simple, practical ways to measure success. We treat monitoring as a chance to learn and improve rather than a box‑ticking exercise. Regular check‑ins and shared insights help us turn feedback into action.

We also bring in independent experts to review key programmes. Their assessments give us an objective view of what is working well and where we can have even greater impact. These findings guide future funding and help build trust in our approach.

By learning and adapting as we go, we stay responsive to the needs of the communities we support. This flexible way of working helps show the real impact of our programmes and strengthens our strategy over time, so we can keep making a positive, lasting difference.
