Our first Virtual Work Experience Programme

Our first Virtual Work Experience Programme in July 2020 was a huge success. We offered work experience to more than 200 young people and provided more opportunities than ever before.

"As an industry, we all need to do far more to encourage the brightest and the best to pursue a career in financial services. We already know that we need more financial advisers, as well as support staff, in order to cater for the increasing demand for financial advice we are seeing from an older population. For many young people financial services is perceived to be complicated and difficult to navigate. From their viewpoint, it is shrouded in mystery and often plagued by negative press comment. As a significant force with the UK Wealth Management industry it is only right that we look to take a lead role in encouraging more young people to understand more about the industry and the huge array of fantastic career opportunities available. Breaking down the knowledge barrier is critical in attracting young talent. Counterintuitively, COVID19 and the subsequent lockdown enabled us to provide an experience to many more participants, due to the whole week being hosted online, than in normal circumstances.”

Feedback from our employees

The speakers on the Quilter Virtual Work Experience Programme were made up of a wide range of individuals from across our business. Here’s why they took part:

Ben Barringer, Senior Equity Analyst and Investment Director, Quilter Cheviot

Christian Captieux, Head of Compliance, Quilter Financial Planning

Gareth Murray, Graduate and Financial Planning Manager, Quilter Private Client Advisers

James Higton, Financial Planner, Quilter Private Client Advisers

As well as taking part in interactive learning sessions, attendees took part in a final project where they had to create a short finance related video. We were really impressed with the quality of all the videos created and how the teams worked together. Watch the winning entry ‘Pocket money and why it’s good for your kids’.
